. r HOB ART, ■ 16th February. The Australian national swimming championships were concluded here yesterday. In the hundred yards backstroke championship, T. Boast (Queensland) was first, W. Cameron (New Zealand) second, and Asoussari (Queensland) third. Seven started. Cameron was just beaten by a touch, but as be is without the necessary residential qualifications his performance is debarred from official recognition-. Time, lmin 7sec.
440 yds Handicap.—M'Cure (New South Wales), 1; Higginson (Victoria), 2; Ray (Tasmania), 3. Won by eight lengths. Time. 6min 37 l-3sec.
The Keiran Shield' for most successes during the meeting went to Queensland.
