GOVERNOR OF HONG KONG
SIR WILLIAM PEEL APPOINTED

The King has approved the appointment of Sir William Peel, Chief Secretary to the Government of the Federated Malay States, to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Hong Kong in succession to Sir Cecil Clementi.
Sir William Peel, who has been Chief Secretary to the Government of the Federated Malay States, was born on the 27th February, 1875. He received bis early education at Queen's Collego and at Cambridge, and in 1897 was placed in tho Malayan Civil Service as a cadet. In 1911 he was appointed President of the Municipal Commissioners in Penang, and in 1918 ho held a similar position in Singapore. The following year he was made Joint Passage Controller and Food Controller of Malaya, subsequently being made Controller of Labour. In 1922 ho was appointed British Adviser to the Government of Kedah, and in 1925 he occupied tho position of Eesident Councillor, Penang.
