LABOUR AT GENEVA

(To the Editor.)

'Sir,—My friend, Mr. M. J. Reardon, in a statement to your paper had some criticism to offer against the Alliance of Labour over the workers' representative at Geneva. His criticism was quite uncalled for, and, besides, is quite inaccurate. I would commend to my friend that book of H. G. Hales, entitled "Where Angels Fear to Tread."

The Alliance of Labour is the national organisation of Labour in New Zealand, and as such have recommended to the unions 'in New Zealand that they should nominate Sir. J. Roberts as the workers' representative at this conference, the same as the executive of the Employers' Federation of New Zealand have recommended to their unions Mr. S. Weston for employers' representative at this conference. Both organisations are viewing the question from a national viewpoint, and which no doubt is the only correct way to view it. He complains about the Alliance of Latour issuing a circular to unions. Has he riot done the same himself? But there is a difference between the circulars—his is issued •' oft' his own bat, the circular of the alliance was issued by instructions from the annual conference of same. •What wo want in this question is the loyalty of the trade unions in New Zealand to the national organisation of Labour and not to any individuals. —I am, etc., E. KENNEDY, Secretary Cooks' and Stewards' Union.
