SPEEDWAY RACING
TO-MORROW'S BIG EVENTS.
Having set ,up record times when appearing in Auckland and in Chris tchurch, Frank Pearce, the brilliant Australian broadsider, is keen to achieve the distinction of registering fastest time in Wellington, and he will set out after the record at the.Kilbirnie Stadium Speedway to-morrow nights It will be before any racing takes place on the track that Pearce makes his attempt, which is timed for 8 o'clock. This important event over, a series of races which promise to be spectacular and thrilling will be commenced. A great contest is. expected for honours in the Big Nine Scratch, in which the New, Zealand champion, Wally Kilmister, will have another opportunity of testing his skill against that of the Australians, Frank Pearce, Lionel van Praag, Max Graham, and Eric Whittle. The last-named, who will be making his first appearance, registered some fine performances in Australia recently. Max Graham should be all the better for his first experience of the improved track last Saturday night. The competition for the Silver Gauntlet is also expected to be keen, with the following competitors taking part:—P. Phillips (holder), K. Ranby, C. Tonks, V. Grove, A. Blair-, and J. Young. First and second class handicap events are to be decided, and in these the back-markers will be put to the test. Throughout the meeting there should be broadsiding displays of a high order, and any amount of exciting racing. Other information regarding the meeting is published elsewhere in this issue.
