HUTT CLUBS IX CONTEST
A tennis match played between the Lower Hutt Tennis and Hutt Bowling and Tennis Clubs, on the new courts at Totara crescent last week-end provided a pleasant day's' sport. All the matches were played on the grass courts, which were in excellent order. Interest was maintained right up to the last two matches, upon which the final result depended. The Lower Hutt Tennis Glub, which is a new club, with its courts off Totara crescent, w.on a very close contest by 17 matches to 14, 205 games to 201. Detailed results are as follow, Hutt Club members being mentioned first:— • Men's Singles.—T. Ward . beat .M. J. Power, 9-7; K. Robinson lost to R.: Forsythe, 6-9; W. Lees, sen., lost to W. E. Carter, 8-9; J. M. Power beat C. R. Leslie, 9-8; R. M'Donald beat Moginnie,' 9-4; Stoupe lost to G. Hill, 8-9; E. George lost to E. Gorton, 7-9; J. Rawnsley beat C. Hoddinott, 9-6. Ladies' Singles.—Miss I. Davidson lost to Miss O. Sheppard, 2-9; Miss Walters beat Miss Ness, 9-4; Miss Northe beat Mrs. Kell, 7-3; Miss Howe beat Mrs. Carter, 7-0; Miss Savage lost to Mrs. King, 2-7; Miss Babbington lost to.. Miss Judd, 4-7; Miss Thorpe lost to Mrs. Baker, 7-4. Men's Doubles.I—J.1 —J. M. Power and Ward lost to M. Power and Leslie, 6-9; W. Lees and Turner lost to Forsytke and W. R. Ladies' Doubles.—Misses Watkins and Davidson lost to Misses Sheppard and Ness, 2-7; Misses Elliott and Howe beat Mesdames Carter and Bush, 7-0; Mrs. Savage and Miss Babbington lost to* Mrs. Kell and Miss Judd, 3-7; Misses Northe and Thorpe lost to Mesdames King and Baker, 3-7. Combined Doubles.—-Ward and Miss Northe lost to Leslie and Mrs. Bush, 8-9; J. M. Power and Miss Davidson beat M. J. Power and Miss Sheppard, 9-2; Robinson and Miss Walters lost to Carter and Mrs. Kell, 4-9;. Lees and Miss Elliott beat Forsythe and Mrs. Carter, 9-5; George and Miss Howe beat Gorton and Miss Ness. 94; M'Donald and Miss Savage beat Hill and Kiss Judd, 9-6; Rawnsley and Miss Babbington lost to Hodrlinott and Mrs. King, 5-9; Stoupe and Miss Thorpe beat Moginnie and Mrs. Baker, 9-7. Miss Howe and Miss Elliott, whose names appear in the results, were visiting players from Brougham Hill, who kindly filled the places of two Hutt ladies who were at the last moment unable to attend. Luncheon and afternoon tea were provided by the ladies' committee, whose efforts were appreciated by all. A return match in the near future is bemg arranged.
