UNFAIRLY PACKED
TOMATOES FOR MARKET
A ftne of £10 was imposed by Mr. E. Page S.M., to-day on Luigi Dicesarc who was charged with unfairly packing tomatoes. ,
Mr. A. Dicker, an inspector from tlie Department of Agriculture said that in tho course of an inspection at the Wellington Markets on 2Sth January he found exposed for sale tomatoes which he found to be packed contrary t' the. requirements of the Fair Packing Regulations. The cases were topped oft' in regard to size, while underneath tlie top layer a very glaring instance of unfair packing was revealed,' a quantity of undersize specimens being found in the lower part of each case. After examining four cases it appeared to witness to be a deliberate breach of the regulations. "The Pair Packing regulations apply to all fruit and vegetables. This is the first prosecution for tomatoes," concluded Mr. Dicker.
The defendant did not appear.
