BURGLARS AT WORK
An attempt by a burglar to ransack a house in Bidwell street on Saturday night was partly frustrated by the timely return of the owner, Mr. J. M. Olsen. With his family, Mr. Olsen had spent the day at Makara and as his daughter was about to open the front door at about 9.30 she saw a strange man inside the house. The stranger took alarm, and throwing up one of the windows made his escape by way of neighbouring backyards. The indications aro that tho thief had not been long in the house and £3 5s in cash and a fountain pen was all ho got for his trouble. A second attempt to break into the Tramways Traffic Offico opposite, Lambton station was mado a few days ago, ■ when some holes were drilled in tho panel of a door. The attempt was unsuccessful, and even hoc! access been gained very little cash would have been found.
