ATTEMPT ON VICEROY

BOMB DAMAGES TRAIN:

LORD IRWIN UNINJURED

United Tress Association—By Electric Tele.

Cruph—Copyright.

(Received 241h December, 11 a.m.)] DELHI, 23rd December.

The Viceroy's train was bombed ten miles outside Delhi this morning on his return from South India. The dining car was smashed and one person injured. The Viceroy and Lad* iiwm were unhurt, and later continued their journey. The outrage took place in a llncic tog, when the train was travelling at a speed of fifty miles an hour. The bomb was evidently meant for the Viceroy's train, as the pilot engine, immediately preceding the Viceregal train, passed over the spot safely. The bomb was placed on the permanent way, and exploded by means of an electric wire from a distance of two and a half miles. Two carriages of the train were badly damaged. It is recalled that this day seventeen years ago a bomb outrage occurred as Lord Hardinge made a Stale entry into Delhi. Lord Irwin was quite unperturbed at the incident.
