SHIPWRECK AND PIRACY

(Received 24th December, 11 a.m.) SHANGHAI, 23rd December.

Two survivors arrived at Hong Kong to-day, picked up by a fishing boat in tho vicinity of Hong Kong, thereby solving the mystery of tho non-arrival of a Chinese coastal steamer which appears to have turned turtle in roughweather on Saturday night, carrying down two huudred passengers and the crew.

Pirates are active along the Wliainpoa Eiver. The latest victim is a small Japanese steamer which groundod and was then raided by pirates and completely looted. There wore no casualties.
