HEAVY WICKET

AUCKLAND SENT OTAGO IN

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day. Nearly three hours behind schedule the Plunket Shield Cricket match between Auckland, the holders of the trophy, and Otago, commenced this afternoon. It was originally intended that play should start at 11 a.m., but an inspection at that hour by the rival captains, D. E. Garrard (Auckland), and A. W. Alloo (Otago), and the umpires showed that the wicket was carrying a great deal of surface moisture, and totally unfit for play. Another visit was paid to the pitch at noon, when it was decided to make a start at 1.30. Garrard won the toss and sent Otago in.
