The inter-club and challenge games will be discontinued until 9th January, but players will have much to interest them in the interval. Many are going to Palmerston North to witness the Gold Medal and Test matches to decide the team for Australia. The list of entries was published on Friday and numbers twenty-one, and nineteen of these are available for Australia. As the contest is to bo played on the Yankee system, i.e., every competitor meeting every other competitor at least once, there should be some splendid games. All the players are 1J bisques or less, ana there is much speculation as to which six will go to Melbourne to try. for the M' Robertson Irophy. _ A morning tea party at Kirkealdie's has been arranged for the 3rd January, on which day the team leaves by the Marama. M'Kenzie Cups. St. Augustine's has defaulted to Island Bay so that after the recess' Upper Hutt players will have their first match for them. King Brooches. The Waimarie Club heia a Christmas party .on Friday, when the trophies for the club pairs were presented to Mesdames Cameron and Norris and to the vunners-up, Mesdanies Savage and Parker. Competitions were played during the afternoon and resultedGolf, Mrs. Taylor; break, Mrs. Kelly French, Mesdames W. S. Judd and Mitchell. Christmas Party. The Ngaroma Club had a most enjoyable party recently when the spirit of Christmas was abroad. There were fancy dresses and masks, and great fun when the latter were removed. Mrs. Lippitt, as a Guy Fawkes, was voted to have the funniest costume, while Mrs Wadsworth's recitation of a wellknown poem caused shrieks of laughter Every member had to contribute to the programme either by song, speech, or story-telling, and there was much originality in the speeches, that on tho subject "A croquet-playing wife" being particularly good. Mrs. Laurie, president of the club, assisted with the arrangements and contributed a much enjoyed recitation. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Pollock, Mrs. Lowery, and Miss Saunders are among those leaving for Palmerston North for the Test matches. Mrs. Shorland, Island Bay, is spending the holidays with her daughter, Mrs. Ferguson, in South Westland. Mis. E. P. Lees, Waimarie, leaves on Friday for a visit to Mount Cook. Mr. ana Mrs. Breeze, Islana Bay, are at "The Grove," Queen Charlotte Sound. Mesdames Eddie and Parker, Hutt, are winners of the club pairs, having come through without a loss. Obituary. Much sympathy will be felt for the family and relatives of the late Mrs. Marshall, who was a member of the Lyall Bay Club for the past six years and who acted as secretary for some time. Mrs. Marshall was a most enthusiastic player, and friena of players, being always ready to help others, and she will be greatly missed. Members of the Lyall Bay Club attended the service at the residence. Beautiful floral tokens and messages of sympathy were received from sister clubs.
