A PROTEST

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—May I protest against the high prices o£ admission to movie theatres? I often wonder if the average movie-fan ever considers where the money goes. Now, Sir, I ask you, why are the patrons of the lower-priced seats crammed into a fewrows from the front? Practically no option is given anyone, as you have either to pay more to get further back, or do as I do, walk out. Now, here is an opportunity to popularise English movies talkies, of course). Reduce the admission prices and space the variouspriced scats suitably, so as to give all a fair chance to procure a good evening's entertainment. I think it is up to the movie syndicates to make a statement as to why they cannot exhibit pictures at a lower rate. The majority of the people of isew Zealand are fair-minded; but when you see picture houses packed full at these prices it mikes one think, if after all they are not a trifle extravagant. Just now Wellington, or New Zealand generally, is passing through a very quiet time, business is slow, and the spectre of unemployment is still lurking around I ask you also, fellow-citizens of this beautiful country, why are we paying away this money fo? motor-cars and moviesl' bureJy- some other citizen will take up this protest. I like movies as well as Knyoae, but I do think the nrices are "too not. —I am, etc.,

ROBERT M'KAY.
