SOLDIERS' CHRISTMAS PARCELS
The monthly meeting of the Kcd Cross Society, Wartime Committee, was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. D. G. Clark presided, and there were present, Mesdames L. Blundell, Herzog, Miss Low, Messrs. S. F. Wright, G. Shirtcliffe, and the secretary, Mr. M. S. Galloway. Apologies were received. from Mr. and Mrs. H. Rose, Mesdames Hall and Myers, and the Hon. Dr. Coliins. It was reported that arrangements had been made to close the Bed Cross Home, Hobson street, for the Christmas holidays Ir°m the 18th instant. By arrangement with the Masterton Hospital Board, cot cases will be treated there during that tune, and the Railway Department is providing for the transport of cots. Miss Low, secretary of the Women's Lommittee, reported that 227 parcels liad been prepared for ex-soldier patients in I the following hospitals:—Wellington 30, Porirua 119 New Plymouth 12, Hawera A, luKeora Sanatorium 40, Napier Hospital 7 Waipukurau 2, Mowai 15. Owing to l;Ue depot closing down for eight weeks during the holidays, a large quantity of1 marking had been done for the weekly requuntion of tobacco, cigarettes, etc. In all 30 parcels were made up, containing "total ot 780 tma tobacco, 560 plug* tobacco 010 pieces of chocolate, and 4430 packets of cigarettes. The Bed Cross Society expresses its appreciation to all who have helped in entertaining the patients during 1929 particularly the- following:—Hataitai Ladies' Guild, Navy League Junior Branch, Wellington Boys' College, Mrs Lundiils, Mr. Sam Jackson, for concerts and entertainments; also the Wellington Bacing Club, Wellington Trotting Club, Lambton railway staff, and the managers of all theatres for favours and courtesy on many occasions.
