SEAS TOO ROUGH TO HELP

Tito liner France radioed that owing to heavy seas and headwinds s>he was unablo to aid the British cargo" steamer "Volumnia, g.nd was proceeding to New York leaving the sinking ship and crew in mid-ocean -with two cargo boats standing by unable to help. The Frances' brief message said that she received the Volumnia's S.O.S. on Sunday, and went to her, but the sea was too rougli for lifeboats. After a radio conference with the Volumnia and two unnamed cargo boats, it was decided that since the France carried mails and passengers she should proceed. The Volumnia left Wales for Philadelphia and Boston on 15th. November, but was disabled the same clay, and put back to Falmouth, from which she departed on-18th November.
