AUCKLAND SPEEDWAY BACES

AUCKLAND; This Day

Over 5000 people assembled at the Western Springs Speedway last evening to watch the dirt-track racing, and they were treated to a series of fine races 'and spectacular falls. In spite of the frequency of spills, there was only one real accident, and it fortunately was not serious. Caas Goodwin, a local rider, fell while broadsiding at great speed in the first heat of tinl big twelve handicap. His machine struck a ridge of cinders formed by tho cycle in front. It leaped into the air and then turned completely over, pinning the rider underneath it. The track assistants quickly removed the machine, and Goodwin was later' removed to the hospital suffering from a fracture of' the collar-bone.'

Thirteen riders received treatment, for-injuries.

The results of the finals were:—

Improvers' Handicap.—A. M'Laren (lOsec), 1; P. Butler (lOsec), 2. Time, lmin 55 2-ssec.

Speedway Handicap.—A. M'Laren (lOsec), 1; H. Stevenson (lOsce), 2. Time, lniiu 51 4-ssec.

Big Twelve Handicap.—A. Mann (scr), 1; C. Goldberg (4seo), 2. Time, lmin 45sec.

Australasian Match.—S. Perkins, 1; A. Maitn, 2. The two men got awaytogether from a rolling start, and there was not a yard between them after two laps. Mann, riding on. the outside, was a'little slower on the corners, and Perkins won by ten yards. His time, lmin 43sec, was the fastest of the evening.
