HAWKE CUP MATCH
CHALLENGERS START BADLY.

PALMEKSTON N., This Day. A cricket match for the Hawke Cup between Manawatu (the holders) and Hawkes Bay (the challengers), commenced this morning in fine weather. Hawkes Bay won the toss and batted. Worker and Temperton opened. Soon after the start Worker snicked one off M'Vicar to leg. Norris accepted the catch. Hudson was next. After mak"ig 2 he was bowled by Gallichan. Three wickets fell for 12 runs. Lowry was the next man in. Eeaney and Lowry batted carefully 20 being scored after 40 minutes' play At 35 Lowry snicked one from M'Vicar and Norris accepted the chance. Shepherd was the next batsman. Eeaney after making 28, was caught easily by Greig. Elliott dia not last long, being caught by Ongley. The next batsman was O'Brien.
