FAIR WAGES: GOOD SERVICE
"I have had some glaring injustices brought to my notice since I have been conducting this campaign," remarked Mr. Kerr (United) at Alicetown. "A man who has four years' service in a Government Department is still ranked as a casual. This ia a man who went to the war. All his applications to get on the permanent list have been refused. He is getting £3 19s 3d, while the wage for a permanent man is, I think, £i 7s. Is it fair that any man should be asked to keep a wife and family on £3 19s 3d per week? Pay men a fair wage and you get it back not only in service, but in a happy and contented people." (Applause.)
