THE LIGHT OF DAY
MR. KERR WILL LET IT IN
Mr. Kerr, the United Party candidate, speaking at Alicetown, strongly condemned the Beform Government for exceeding the estimates for the erection of the new railway workshops, and promised that, if returned, ho would favour a Commission to investigate not only this transaction, but the transactions of other Departments of State. "What we need," he said, "is to let the light of day into all transactions. What we need is a clean administration which hides nothing. Mr. Coates was acclaimed as the man for the job when he came into office—as the 'man who gets things done.' " A voice: "And so he is." "I hope," said Mr. Kerr, "before I've finished that you will be able to say, 'So he wasn't.' " (Applause.) The candidate went on to refer to the decreasing balances under the Beform administration. In the face of the deficit which he handed over to the United Government, Mr. Coates had had the "political hypocrisy" to expect Sir Joseph Ward to increase Civil servants' salaries.
