INFORMATION WANTED

UtfCEETAIN RAILWAY PROJECTS

The refusal of the Prime Minister to supply information which would prove that the South Island Main Trunk railway and the Nelson-West Coast line, when completed, would give an economic return on the capital invested, was strongly criticised by Mr. H. F. Johnston (Eeform), speaking at Koro Koro last night. On those matters, said Air. John-j

ston, Parliament had been deliberately prevented from functioning, as information had been withheld regarding tho advisability of expending millions of pounds oe railways. That was a position he, at any rate, as one elector, was not prepared to submit to. The only party that would stick to a cor tain definite policy was tho Keform Party. If they supported the United Pirty they would .find exactly the same position of chaos continuing until the next general election as existed last session. After the muddle the Government was making thero would be a tremendous cleaning up, and the longer they had-to wait the worso it would be. New Zealand was not in the position, good as its credit was through the prudent administration of the Reform Government, to allow a spendthrift Government—which was what he accused the United Government of being— to remain in power, and neither could it afford to let into power a destructive Government, such as a Labour Government would be.
