The- 2000-ton steamer Haiehing was attached by pirates between Swatow and Hong Kong in the early morning. The British officers resisted. It is believed that they shot dead several Chinese pirates, capturing others. The third mate, K. A. Woodward, died of wounds received in tho fightin" The mate, K. P. P erry> was also wounded. J.IIO pirates set lire to tho ship, but the crow's efforts confined it to midships iwo destroyers from Hong Kong havo set out to tako off the captured pirates
