(Deceived Oth December, 9 a.m.)
WASHINGTON,. Sth December
Mr. C. F. Adams, Secretary of the Navy, announced that the present plans call for tho completion of all of the first five 10,000-ton cruisers authorised in February last by June, 1933. Two of them are now being built, while the others will not bo begun until after the London Conference, although the plans are to bo pushed immediately. Congress is expected to make reservations modifying the programmo if that is necessary to conform to any decisions reached at the conference. Parity in aircraft carrier tonnage provided for the Washington Treaty is tho most urgent need of naval aviation tho Secretary of the Navy, Mr. Adams, states in his annual report. He did not specify whether the Navy wished for the maximum tonnage of 135,000 permitted under the Washington Treaty or merely a figure equal to British aircraft carrier tonnage, in tho neighbourhood of 107,000 tons.
