HAWERA TRACK WORK

HAWERA, This Day
Conditions were good for the training operations on Saturday. All the important work was finished before the rain set in. The fast work*' was all.done on the outside of the course proper, the pegs being a little more than half-way out. The going was good, but not fast.
W. Pine was the first to commence serious work, sending Ross Ferry and Calamina over six furlongs. The pair put up a good gallop, running out the distance in : lmin ■ 20sec,-with Calamino in front at the finish, Silvermine, who is to have his first try-out over a distance in the Egmont Cup, strode over a couple of, rounds in good style. The Sheffield youngster. Cowanlea was sprinted with-Cambridge over three furlongs, , acquitting .himself well by finishing alongside his companion in feee. The two-year-olds Chief Link and' Awaken went smartly over three furlongs in'"3Bfcseer.-:\.-. V, ■ ■ .
Paitonu, Vivo, and Mount Shannon were responsible for a good work-out over seven furlongs, run in lmin 40see, the trio finishing together. Mount Shannon is showing improved track work;
. Somewood had an advantage over Tentcall at the start of a sprint over three furlongs, and maintained it to the finish in 38% sec. TentcaH"s was the better effort.
The Cup candidate Bright Glow went nicely in her work over a mile in lmin 55%5e0 without being hustled. Joy Spear beat Bon Eve over five furlongs, traversed in lmin 10% sec, by a good length. . .
Just So and Green Linnet jumped off at the three furlongs and ran home in a fifth, under:.39sec,-; Just So was a head in ifront. .; ': -, ': .~ . '
•/Royal .Aero- '(Hi 'Cook) went well in a schooling bout over the hurdles. . _Partaga,' who'has .had a. short let up, did not go .very convincingly in a gallop over half a-mile in-55' 4-osec.
/E. Brpugh's- Surveyor youngster Harry finished lip nicely over :his- three-furlongs in"4osec.
Valpre and Portaliee ran their halfmile in SS^Aaec, . finishing together. Aubridge, Golden. Flower., and Animated I jumped.'off' at the three furlongsand came home-in 39 2-ssec,. with the. first-named having a head advantage at the. finish. Coalbag and Bichfield, starting rather slowly, ran but a good five furlongs in lmin S'/ssec', The last half-mile of Richfield's, gallop ivas impressive, and Coalbag's effort was an\ improvement on his usual track work. ■ ..
J. Fryer's hunter, ridden by H. Milis, after, running off at the first jump, went a round of the schooling hurdles^ jumping proficiently.
