Trentham Notes,
Martian Chief, the Chief Ruler—Martianette youngster in H. B. Lorigan's stable, has been added to the list. The Acre—Minona, yearling in S. Reid's stable and First Money have also been emasculated.
Royal Duke will be H. B. Lorigan's only representative at Woodville. Lorigan will take a big team to Hawera, and subse-. quently they will be divided at Palmerston, North, some being left to race at Christmas time at Awapuni, and the others being sent on to Auckland.
Hastings Track Notes,
Admiral Drake ran a. solid sis furlongs at Hastings on Thursday morning in lmin 18sec." ■-..:..:■ ... :.---.
Goshawk, The Hawk, and White Fang ran five furlongs in. lmin Sh&see, but not one of the trio was fully extendedy says the "Tribune." All are engaged at, Auckland, but nothing.definite as to their Christmas movements has been decided..
Merry Mint and Hunting Cry ran once round on the plough in lmin 42% sec, both going well, especially the latter, who now carries more .condition than hitherto.
Gascadeace and Futurist sprinted half a mile in 51 l-ssec. I'm Alone and Skid (Leighton—Jestee) took 52sec for four furlongs, with the former going much the better. ...,"..
Royal Parade, Head Serang, and Merry Melody were restricted to a w.orking gallop, the two former pleasing most. Merry Damon, who looks exceptionally well, was not galloped. He is to contest the Bolton Handicap at Woodville next week.
Delude and Cuticle did pace work only. Crown Emblem., and Cher Amie took 52sec to run half a mile, with the former holding a slight advantage at^ the finish.
Kick Off, alonei and with "a light weight up, ran five furlongs in lmin 3%see, which is a good gallop for him.
Mountain Heath was not galloped, but was given slow work on the plough. He is very forward, and with 7.8 should race well in the Bolton Handicap. Lordlike was not extended in his gallop. This son of Lord Ques and Lady Delaval may be raced at the Egmont Meeting. Kaikatoa, looking . none -the... worse for his Feilding trip, moved well in his pace work. "
Moa Bird, who looks very well, was worked on the lead. Simba was not out, and is unlikely to make the Woodville trip. War Worn was not going as well as Flakewhite at the end o£ half a mile run in 52% sec.
Jenny Diver and Bernera took lmin ,4%see; to run their five furlongs. Jenny Diver, the two-year-old daughter: of Lord Quex and Polly Peachum, finished a couple of lengths to the good, and shows a decided improvement.
The Mug was restricted.to slow work, and lost condition on his recent trip to the Feilding Meeting. Queen's Choice, alone,' sprinted half a mile in 50sec. High Court, alone, on the plough, ran threequarters of a mile-in lmin 19see, doing it well. : •
Tahoma was not going as-well as Repay at'the end of five furlongs run in Imiu 4Usec, and had the pair gone another furlong it. appeared as though- the latter would have finished further, in front.
Auda, alone, ran five furlongs iv lmin 2%sec—the best gallop of the morning. This three-year-old gallops exceptionally fast, and in this gallop rattled off the first two furlongs in 22% sec, which is' seldom done on the Hastings track.
A Useful. Northerner.
A Smart Field.
Owipg to aninjury to a hoof internally, Sir Russell had a setback, and could not be.worked for some days. He has now recovered,, and the short. respite from work has apparently not been harmful, as he is showing -rim in his work that was not noticeable earlier in the season. He was not raced at the Taumanmui Meeting, but may carry silk at Te Awamutu next Saturday.
Well Related.
Compris, who finished- fourth in the* Lagmhor Plate at Ashburtou, is a three-year-old gelding by Kilbroney from Halina, so is a half-brother to. Solferite. He was purchased as. a yearling by his present owner, Mr. P. F. Campbell, of Christchureh, at a- sale of thoroughbreds held at Addington, for 50 guineas, and had his first race at the Banks Peninsula Meeting last month. He is not as far advanced as the majority o£ the opposition, but is a promising galloper, and his name will -be more prominent later.
Change of Location
Ah Wera has been" leased to Mr. N. Quirk, and is now a member of G. A. Reid's stable. This trainer now has a team o£ three hurdlers, Archeen, Ah Wera, and St. Warrigal, and he will easily be able to gauge their capabilities in this department. Ah_ Wera is probably a' better hurdler than he has hitherto shown, and this may be proved within the next few months. St. Warrigal, by St. Amans— Warrigal mare, has been in Reid's charge for. only a few weeks, but is certainly an improved horse now. For a, big one he shows the possession of a fair amount of pace. . • .
May Be At Ellerslie.
Tliose who saw Jaldux race so well behind; his stablemate, Honour, in the New Zealand Derby at Riccarton made a note of him-for- future engagements. It looks as if he is bound for Ellerslie, where he should open his winning account. The records show that he ran one , very good race in Australia last October, when he finished second to Violin Solo in the decision of the Trial Stakes at Randwick. In the race, referred to, the distance of which extended to a mile and a quarter, Jaleux was beaten only by half a length, and, as the ten furlongs were covered in 2min s%sec, the son of Satula showed that-he could gallop.
A Victorian Idea,
According to an Australian exchange the latest move in Victoria is one that will meet with the approval of many people in this country who have the welfare of. the Turf at heart. Trainers in Victoria.have had afresh responsibility, placed'upon them. It is for them to say that ,an apprentice rider is forward enough in bis education in the saddle to fit him to go into public. A permit will not be granted unless the application is signed by at least six trainers who have seen the boy at work on the tracks. From ibis plan a good deal is toped for, and SBiobably results wilT-gustify. it,.- -
Odds and Ends.

Mr. A. R. Allardyce, o£ Christchurch, has been appointed judge for the summer meeting of the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club.

P. V. Mason worked Honour, Jalous, Praise, Greenaway, Pride, and Goblin Market the reverse way at Riccarton on Saturday. ■ .
H. Gray's collarbone is not broken, and the injury is expected to yield to treatment so that he will be fit to ride at the holiday meetings.
