KARORI CLUB

Members of the Karori Rifle Club at Trentham on Saturday fired the final match of the short range series for the club championship-over ranges 300 yards and COO yards.

The weather conditions were all against accurate shooting, a violent right rear wind making holding extremely difficult, whilst the scurrying clouds overhead did not improve the visibility of the targets. A match at 300 yards and COO yards is always considered by riflemen to be the hardest combination of ranges to shoot over, ;uid when th weather conditions are as bad as they were last Saturday scores of 40 points and over are thought quite good. At 300 yards most of the competitors scored slightly better than inners, but it was left to P. B. Goldfinch and J. M Ivelvie to head the list with good scores or 44 apiece.

At 600 yards, where the wind almost reached gale force at times, one competitor, L. A. Caldwell, shot with masterly precision and scored a brilliant 45, when his less fortunate club mates were vainly' trying to keep their shots on the target. Ihree competitors tied for the honour of nrst place on the day's shooting". On the count back, first place was awarded to h. hush, a new member, who has had previous shooting experience with the Hawera and Wanganui Rifle Club. J. M-Kelvie fills second place, and H. C. Boon third place. In the scratch division, L. A. Caldwell finished up a point ahead of H. Frankland. Saturday's scores were as follow:
