TITAHI BAY CLUB

With'the fine clubhouse completed and twelve out : of the. eighteen holes of the golf course ready for play, it is not difficult to'visualise the future of the Titahi Bay Golf Club. -The three hundred or so present on Saturday afternoon at _ the opening ceremony fully appreciated the possibilities, of, the.whole scheme to make Titahi Bay • "the Brighton of New Zea-land-.-and the. home of sport," as one speaker' at- the opening ceremony put it. Tennis courts, croquet lawns, and bowling greens are scheduled for completion within the next few months, and these, coupled with the ocean, should make Titahi. Bay a place, for everyone whatever his or her tastes.

: At the.'. opening ceremony on Saturday, Mi-., A. Brice outlined the events which had led up to the day's culmination. 'He paid tribute to the energy of Mr. - Dunbar Sloane, the originator and organiser of the Ranui Club, to the architect of the clubhouse, Mr. Haughton, to the. builders, 'Messrs. Johnson and Wilsou, ..and to the greenkeeper, Mr. Potts. The links), he predicted, would be second to none in the Southern Hemisphere.

Other speakers .were Mr. W. HustlerSmith, club captain, and Mr. M. Crombie, Miramar captain, both of whom eulogised the new links, which would carry on the traditions of the Ranui Club. After Mr. Smith had driven the first ball down the fairway from the first tee, the house flag together with the Union Jack was hoisted amidst applause. Afternoon lea and music greatly assisted in making a success of the proceedings.
