DRIVEN ASHORE
ITALIANS' FISHING LAUNCH
Tho 45ft launch Sicilia, manned by five Italian fishermen, of Island Bay, was driven ashore at Titahi Bay by the storm in the early hours of Wednesdaymorning last, and is still lying high and dry on the beach. The party was fishing in the Sicilia off Mana Island on. Tuesday night, when engine trouble developed, but with tho aid of the small auxiliary engine the launch was put into Titahi Bay, where it was intended to anchor until the morning. However, a storm came up, and the Sicilia was driven on to the beach and tho crew had to scramble ashore.
The Italians sought shelter at an accommodation house, but it is stated that after they had knocked on tho door for some time in the pouring rain the door was opened and banged in their faces. After trying to get into the house again without success the men went to the Post Office store, where they were given shelter and made comfortable.
The Sicilia, which is owned by two Italians, is one of the biggest launches of the Island Bay fishing fleet. Efforts are to bo made this week to refloat the launch.
