GREAT REINDEER TREK

CANADIAN GOVERNMENT'S

PURCHASE

(Received 9th December, 2.30 p.m.)

OTTAWA, Bth December. One of the greatest treks of animals in Canadian history began in the Far North, where 3000 reindeer, purchased by the Dominion Government from a firm in Alaska, were started from Elephant Point on a fifteen hundred miles pilgrimage across to the Mackenzie River delta. They will not get there till early in the spring of 1931. The Government bought the herd for 195 - 000 dollars, and the contractors are attending to the delivery. The deer are designed to furnish food and clothing for the.natives of Canada's Farthest North.
