The rfnal games in the secondary school.-girls' ; tennis tournament'- were .played:, at. the . Palmer street' ■'courts ' to-day. Some excellent contests were witnessed, the standard shown by the competitors being surprisingly high. This was particularly so in the ease of Alisscs Phillips and Anderson, the two girls, who | contested the:.final.of the;sen.ipr singles: | Both girls displayed a very fair know- j lodge of the finer points of the game, AlissAnders'on. being: tlio stylist, -while Aliss ■ Phillips relied: on her steadiness and accuracy to carry :her through. Anderson (W.G.C), 6-4, .2-6, .6-4, .As could be expected, the best tennis of the tournament was displayed by these two finalists. Aliss Anderson, a stylish, hard-hit-ting player, was not too accurate, and her opponent, who was steadiness itself, gained a lot of points from Aliss Anderson's mistakes. After winning the first set 6-4, Miss Phillips lost the first three games of the next. She then won one, but lost the next, Aliss Anderson eventually "winning. 6-2. Game for game, the girls went to four-all in the final set. Mistakes' at crucial points then cost Miss Anderson, the set and the match. It was.a closely-fought and interesting match, both girls displaying splendid form. Doubles.—Semirfinal: V.. Burns and N. Kidd (H.V.) beat E. Kirke and D. Patchett (E.G.C.), 7-0; E. Thomas and AI. Fleet (H.V.), beat R. Anderson and D. King (W.G.C), 8-6. Final. ■ V. Burns and N.Kidd (H.V.) beat E. Thomas and M. Fleet (H.V.), 6-1, 6-3. Hutt Valley provided the finalists In the senior doubles, Misses Burns and Kidd winning rather comfortably. .--■:•-.'' .JUNIOR. Singles.—Semi-final:. AI. Dampeny (M.) beat W. Lowe (Tech.), 7-2; J. Sellars (Tech.) beat D. Johnson. (Tech.), " 'Sinai. M, Dampeny;(M.) beat J. Sellars (Tech.), 6-3, 6-4. The winner had a great variety "of "sEbt's" and also displayed more enterprise in going for the shot. .Miss Sellars put up a good fight, especially in the last set. Doubles,—Semi-final: A.
