GERMAN POLITICS

NATIONALIST SPLIT

NEW PARTY FORMING

SCENE IN REICHSTAG

(Received (ith December, 11 a.vi.)

BERLIN, sth December

The revolt oi! the Nationalists against Hugenberg's anti-Young Plan policy quickly developed. Twelve have already resigned. It is expected that the party will, lose at least twenty. Count Westarp has resigned the leadership in the Reichstag, but he explains that this does not mean seceding from the party. It appears that Brian's Nationalist Party turned against Hugenberg, and the secessionists with the Right Wingers of the People's Party, may create a new party, constituting a stronger Conservative opposition than the Nationalists have been able to provide. This will leave the Nationalists, hitherto numbering 78, an unimportant group, made still smaller by the fact that its Bight Wing is drifting towards Hitler's Fascist Party. llerr Kloenne, one of the seceders, declared that Hugenberg had no strategic insight, and pressed the plebiscite, against the opinion of the Bourgeoisie, against the President of the Reich, and against reason.

There were violent scenes in the Reichstag over tho Finance Minister, Herr Severing, proposing the first reading of a Bill for the protection of the Republic. Communists called out "Bloodhounds" and "Murderer." Twen-ty-four deputies were suspended. A Bill was also introduced to make the party proposing a plebiscite pay for 'it.
