SCENE IN SENATE
VARE PLEADS FOR SEAT
(Received 6th December, 2 p.m.)
WASHINGTON, sth December. The Senate witnessed a unique ani dramatic scene when William Vare," the multi-millionaire, appeared iv person to demand a seat which was denied him by the Senatorial Investigation Committee whose members found ' widespread bribery in connection with his election three years ago. It was. the first time a non-member was per- ". mitted to speak in this manner. Partly, paralysed, Vare's useless arm hung iv" his pocket, while under tremendous emotion, gripping the desk to prevent himself falling, he read a lengthy state-:' ment demanding justice and fairness. He accused other Senators of buying their way in. Vare's physicians watched him closely as he pleaded in a faltering voice.
