EMPIRE GAMES

INVITATION FROM CANADA

Purtivulars of Britisli Empire Games, to be held in Canada from l(it]i to~ 23rd August, 1930, were placed before the Xew Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last evening. A letter was received from Mr. K. W. Beatfcy, K.C., LL.D., chairman of the general committee, stating that the fames, which -would bo lield in Hamilton (.Canada), would include athletics, rowing, busing, wrestling, tennis, and swimming. The list o£ events in each sport would be similur to that adopted in the Olympic Games. The games would bo open to all amateur athletes of thu British Empire entries to be made by the various governing bodies. The rules of the International Federations in each sport would be followed. All officials and competitors would be guests of the citizens of Hamilton during their visit. Duriii" the sume week international contests would bo-conducted in the following sports: Yacht racing, motor-boat racing) lawn bowling, candling, trapshooting. The Canadian committee extended a cordial invitation to the New Zealand Association to be represented' at the games, and confidently counted on the association's active co-operation and participation The chairman (Mr. 11. W. M'Vill.v) said that the association might reply to the effect that they would be glad to give consideration to the matter after the season in jS'ew Zealand was completed. The association wanted to know what its funds would be. Much would depend on whether the Canadians came. "If we have anybody who shows outstandin" form, representation might be considered " said the chairman. "It would be pretty costly to .send a team."

Mr. G. S." Bright said that if the games were to be the event of the year, and tho. other Dominions represented, New Zealand should make an effort to be represented.

Mr: M'Yilly: "I think we should, but we should not commit ourselves definitely till we see the wherewithal to send the team. ' We might circularise the centres about it."

The latter suggestion was adopted.
