Mr. W. J. Rogers, Mayor of Wawaum, is on a brief visit to Wellington. Sir Herbert Matthews, of London arrived at Auckland by the Niagara, od business connected with afforestation. He expects to be in New Zealand for about five weeks.
Mr A. W. Press, managing directorof Thompson Bros., Ltd., returned yesterday by the Makura from a visit to Australia. .
Mr. 1. j. iviau, of the Hotel workers' Federation, will be leaving for Curist?o Uta Ck 'Ir hc^^S of next yea, to take up the secretaryship of * the Cunstchurch branch of the federation Brigadier Sidney Church, who has been appointed editor of the "War the official organ of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, arrived in Wellington yesterday. Brigadier Church and Mrs. Church come from Canada an r"r ed at Auckland by the Niagara on Monday.
Messrs. A. J. Paterson and H. J. btott (secretary) were appointed at the monthly meeting of the Wellington Automobile Club executive last night as the club's representatives on the Uty ana ' Suburban Highways Board, of Control. .
Viscount and Viscountess Craigavon who are at present fishing and sightseeing m the Taupo district, and intend to visit a number of farming districts in Taranaki and elsewhere, are expected to arrive in Wellington about 31st January. Viscount Craigavon is to be entertained at dinner at the Town Hall by the local Ulsternien.
Mr. Norman D. Nairn, the originator or, the motor mail service across the desert separating Damascus and Bagdad, arrived at Auckland by the Niagara, accompanied by Mrs. Nairn. They intend to spend a month in New Zealand. Mr. Nairn, who is a New Zealander has not been in. the Dominion since 1916, when he left to go on active
.Brigadier Sidney 'A. Church and Mrs. Church, of the Salvation Army, arrived from Auckland yesterday, having reached New Zealand from Canada on the Niagara. Brigadier Church is the new editor of the "War Cry »» For almost the entire period of his twenty-four years' service as an Army officer, he has been engaged in editorial work. He began his career as a helper ft t -T ielf SeeretaiT's Department at Toronto, but was appointed after a few months to assist the editor at that period. Under successive editors he served in that same department for seventeen years, until his appointment as editor-in-chief of the Canada West publications in 1923. Pour years later he returned to Toronto to occupy the position that had been so worthily nilea by his predecessors, all of whom ion* °£ e> he haa served under since 1905. From Toronto the Brigadier was appointed by General E. J. Higgms to the position of editor-in-chief in New Zealand, with headquarters at Wel3hgton. 6
