v. £-8 r-eaent con4ition of the track at the iulbirme Stadium Speedway and the improving form oof riders hold out good prospects of very fast times being registered in the events to be decided nest Saturday night. One of the Australian riders, W. Stiepewieh, lowered the Chriitchurch record by three seconds last Saturday, and, having struck his best form, he is likely to go close to the record next Saturday. Other riders also have improved to such an extent that in the series of events for the Golden Helmet the spirited competition will probably account for the record being broken. Kilmister is the holder of the Helmet, and on Saturday night there will be nine of the leading broadsiders, including the Australians, making claims for possession. The Silver Gauntlet, to be decided for the first time this season, should also account for some thrilling races. R. Ranby, the grass track middle-weight champion, will be making his first apeparance of the season ami will be mounted on a special machine The selection of riders for the Golden Helmet is: W. Kilmister (holder) W Stiepewieh, J. Datson. C. R MTSenzie" W- Harvie, T. Morgan, V. Grove, J. Lawton Tim Wilkinson, and P. M'Ghee. Those for the Silver Gauntlet are: J. M'Kay V Riualdi, F. C. Spencer, R. Ranby, H D Ross, and E. Naylor (holder), who are also in the A division, aod A. C. Watt, A. Blair, H. Lucchessi, and J. W. Burt, vk j I?? arB> O. Lundiu% A.
