;■. A meeting to protest against tho Government's attitude concerning the capitation fees paid to school committees was held recently in the Berhamporo School.

Mr.. N. A. Ingram addressed the jneetmg, giving figures showing the comparative grants to primary and secondary., schools, and also the average amounts given to committees.

.' A motion -was passed expressing the strongest dissatisfaction at the reply ■of the Minister of Education to the ■^representations made to him on the subject of capitation by the school committees and recording the conviction that the present payments were inadequate for the purpose for ;which they -were given. "We cannot believe"," continued tho resolution, ' 'that the Minister was sincere when ;he stated that he appreciated the work "done by. the school committees and with their representations he refuses to recommend an inin the capitation payments. Fur- ' thermore, this meeting pledges itself to Support any action that might be taken .'to ensure equitable payments being made to school committees."

The following resolution was passed "at a recent well-attended meeting of -the Waiwhetu School Committee and Parents' Association: "That this meet--ing of the Waiwhetu' School Committee and Parents' Association deplores the action of the Government in failing to grant relief to school committees by increasing grants (capitation). and strongly supports the Wellington School Committees' Association and .TJnited Federated Schools' Association -in their efforts to obtain this objective .as the present grants are totally inadequate to enable committees to carry i «ufc their work in an efficient and fit- - ting, manner."
