AT TAKAPUNA

CORINAX'S SUPRISE WIN STANLEY HANDICAP TO DUELLONA (By Telegraph.) (Spocial to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, 2nd December. Some good racing was witnessed at the conclusion of the Takapuna Meeting today. Several good favourites were successful, but the results were not very favourable to backers, as several other short-priced horses were defeated, and two of the winners were at double figures. Corinas registered a surprise win in the St. Andrew's Handicap, and returned a very substantial dividend. The totalisator handled £33,022 10s, compared with £40,898 last year. The total for the meeting was £75,522 10s, compared with £G8,541 10s last year.

VAUXHALL HANDICAP. Sea Song was an odds-on favourite for the Vauxhall Handicap, with most of the others at fair prices. Sea Song was in the lead for fiv.e furlongs, with Loving Cup and Belle Star, and then collapsed to finish a long way back. Belle Star and Nassau Lady were the leaders into the straight from Diamond Queen, Loving Cup, and Biddy Comet, Diamond Queen coming through on the rails in the run home to win by a length from Nassau Lady. Biddy Comet was another length away third, and Belle Star fourth, then coming Mon Star and Loving Cup. The favourite looked bright when she went out, and her effort was decidedly disappointing. Diamond Queen won nicely, while Nassau Lady and Biddy Comet again ran solid races. Chesterman threw his rider as the field was about to line up at the post, and took no part in the race. HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP. The Kawati Highweight Handicap was a decent betting race, with Importer, Glena Bay, Wenday, and Golden Weddingall heavily backed. Red Comet and Waitauuaha were prominent early, Red Comet leading past the stand from a strung-out field, with Importer and Glena Bay last. Four furlongs from home Wenday assumed command from Master Roley, with Golden Wedding and Glena Bay moving up. Glena Bay was just behind the leaders at the home turn, and finished on strongly to win by three-parts of a length from Wenday, who defeated Master Roley by a length. Golden Wedding was a moderate fourth, and Quincoma fifth. Glena Bay was patiently ridden by H Duheu, and finished on splendidly. Wenday and Master Roley ran sound races, but Importer was never prominent.

STANLEY HANDICAP. Duellona was a good favourite for the btanley Handicap, with' Tetrachate also solid y supported. Orchus and Roman Pearl began quickest, but Tetrachate and liucky Alice were soon in front, with Duellona handily placed in fifth position. Two turlongs from home Duellona sprinted on the outside and took charge at the turn to come away and win easily by three lengths from Roman Pearl. Lucky Alice was a'length away third, and Tetrachate lourtn. Orchus and Some Lady were next. Duellona was always going well,' and gave nothing a chance at the finish. Roman Pearl was handily, placed throughout, and finished .011: fairly ■ well. Tetrachate. was.going .well, in the lead until headed at the turn. CAUTLEY HANDICAP. Only six started in the Cautley Handicap, and Leitnin was an odds-on favourite with 1 olyxena a good second choice. Leitl rim began best, -to.be joined early by lakutama and Volimond. The field bunched entering the straight, and Leitrim Pnt l£d "^ the bend !l'om Takutama PoJy.xeua, Macroom, ■ and Volimond. Leitrim held bis own in the run home and won by three-parts of a length from thir 1?'111^ r? Maeroo^ a length awa^ third. Takutama was fourth, with the others well beaten. Leitrim.was going away again near the post. ifo yxena made a decent showinc and^honld soon be an the winning lift ST. ANDREW'S HANDICAP. An outsider in Corinax effected a surprise m leading from end to end in the St Andrew's Handicap for which Prince Val was a good favourite over Lady's Boy and Le Choucas. Corinas and The Lover attended to the pacemaking, Corinas leading into the straight from Prince Val Tie Lover, Royal Doulton (wide out), and Ladys Boy. Corinax more than held his own in the run home and won by two lengths from Hipo, with The Lover three lengths away third. Lady's Boy was fourth, succeeded by Royal Doulton, True Blood, and Eager Rose. Corinax was at a false price. He is right back to form, and is likely to be one of the early fancies for the Auckland Cup. Hipo finished on well, while Prince Val and Royal Doulton ran good races considering that they were so badly placed early. They ran round the outside of the field at the top, to be handy at the home' turn, only to weaken in the run home. Briar Root covered a lot of ground, and True Blood and Lady's Boy were both unlucky.

RAKINO HANDICAP,

Another outsider in Hampton Park turned up in the Rakino Handicap, for which I Orapai and Sight Draft were heavily I backed. , Biddy's Boy, Thespis and Sight Draft were prominent early from Orapai and Hampton Park. The leaders bunched at the turn where Hampton Park moved on the outside. Hampton Park came on solidly in the run home and won by a neck from Sight Draft, Biddy's Boy being a length and a half away third. Wild Time was fourth, followed by Caviare and Thespis.

The winner is an Australian-bred colt ,by Tarquin from Marcovara, and is owned by Mr. A. E. Watkins,. who effected his purchase some weeks ago for £500. This was his first start, and his effort was very encouraging. Sight Draft improved considerably upon her effort on the first day Orapai showed plenty of speed after being a trifle slow away from the outside, and faded at the finish.

PUPUKE HACK HANDICAP.

Vali was an odds-on favourite for the Pupuke Hack Handicap, being over twice as well backed as Cybele, who had a slight call over Good Boy. Tarrapeen and Brampton attended to the running, with Good Boy and Micrometer together, and ■then Vali and Cybele. Brampton led into the straight from Micrometer and Good Boy, with Vali coming fast on the outside. Good Boy had charge below the diftance, and stalled off Vali to win by three parts of a length. Brampton was fourth, and Alloy fifth.

Good Boy was always well placed on the rails and finished gamely. Vali also came home well, and was unlucky to lose, as he had to come on the outside.

NGATARINGA HANDICAP. Refresher was an odds-on favourite for the Ngataringa Handicap, with Lucy Rose and Mithra nest in demand, and the others

at nice prices. Refresher hopped ' out smartly, and led throughout, to win easily by two lengths from Mithra, who beat Gemlight by a neck. Respirator was rom-th, and Lucy Rose finished fifth I lie winner carried several pounds overweight, and won really well. Mithra also put up some overweight, and ran one of her best races for some time. Lucy Rose began smartly, but soon lost her position, and was never afterwards dangerous.
