CRICKET

WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION A meeting of the Management Committee, of the Wellington Cricket Association was held last night, Mr. P. B. Broad presiding. Messrs. L. T. Cobcroft and S. A. Smith were appointed the umpires for the Wellington match against the M.C.C. team. Permission was granted the Wellington Public Schools Cricket Association to send two teams to Mastertou on Thursday next to play Wairarapa. As a result of a conference between the association and the Umpires' Association it was decided that there shall be a ten minutes' adjournment for afternoon tea in all senior matches, and that the adjournment shall be a matter of arrangement between the umpires and the cap- i tains in all other matches. Mr. Reed reported that in regard to the. proposed veterans' match to celebrate the jubilee of matches between Wellington and Canterbury some fifteen or more old players had been interviewed, and all had been enthusiastic ami stated that they would be willing to play. It was considered, however, that 27th December was nn unsuitable date, and the sub-committee set up to go into the matter recommended that Canterbury be invited to send a team of veterans to play the Wellington veterans at Wellington on St. Patrick's Day. The recommendation ■ was agreed to.

A civic reception is to be given the English team in the Town Hall at noon on the day of their arrival in Wellington, Tuesday, 10th December.
