ANNUAL RECITAL
. The fifth annual recital by pupils of Mrs. Isobel Halligan took place In the King George Theatre, Lower Hutt, last evening. In spite of the Inclement weather there was a large audience, which thoroughly enjoyed the many varied items. The farce, "Have You Anything to Declare," created roars of laughter, and other sketches of merit were Tanchette from Prance' and "Queen of Hearts." The popular child entertainer, Ismay M'llroy, gave "At the Zoo," and with Joyce Graham a Dickens dialogue portraying Mrs. Sarah Gamp and Mrs. Betsy Peng respectively. Another wellknown figure on the competition Btage, Miss Gracie Kerr, performed Katherlne opposite to Mr. James Coolie's Petruchio from "The Taming of the Shrew." The pupils of Miss Betty Nicholas help with dancing Items. Other Individual turns included: Miss N. Pollock, "The Bobolink"; Hugh Janson, "The Sergeant"; Lois Boyes, "The Queen of Butterflies"; Gladys Levy, ;'ln the Usual ■Way"; Pattie Kerr, "The Plumber"; Diedre Hungerford, "Iras from Ben Hur"; Jeanne Colser, "Cheated"; Joyce Graham, "Procrastination." The stage settings helped to create the right atmosphere, and reflected credit on those members of the Petone Benefit Entertainers who were in charge. Mrs. Halllgan was the recipient of numerous bouquets at the conclusion of the performance. The recital certainly maintained the very high standard set in previous years, and the request for a repeat performance in Petone Is likely to be acceded to. The accompaniste was Mrs. M'Gurk, with Mr. Len Price as stage manager.
