V.M.C.A. GYMNASTS
ANNUAL COMPETITIONS
A record number attended both the V.11.C.A. annual gymnastic competition and the "End of the Season Social," both of -which.were held at the V.M.C.A. gymnasium. Mr. A. C. Kitto acted as judge. A novel competition was held, the competitors being ex-champions, who competed in a special class of their own, in which they had to set their own combination of -work. This brought out some most interesting displays, which were warmly applauded. The prizes were distributed by Mr. W. J. Mason, who complimented both the winners and the losers for their excellent sportsmanship. Mr. L. J. Greenberg, the secretary of the association, proposed the toast of the association, congratulating the members on their esprit de corps, "which, enabled them to assist other local organisations doing community wox'k. During the evening Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Duffy received presents from the members of the senior classes. Mr. Duffy responded.
The gymnasium entertainers, led by Miss Norma Walker, gave a burlesque, "The .Wedding o£ the Painted Boll." Mr. L. Anderson, in a humorous character sketch, was well received. The film "Pageant of Youth," lent by the Government Publicity Department^ was screened, and many- of the. local gymnasts saw themselves on the screen for the first time. Mr. H. J. Steptoe was master of ceremonies, and Mrs. J. D. Duffy was the accompanist. The following is the list of prize-winners: : Senior gymnastic champion: J Boyle 78 points, 1; T. J. Hurley, 76 points, 2. Men's championship: T. J. Hurley, 76 points, 1; J. Swan, 70 points, 2. Ladies' championship: M. Bradshaw, 84% points,' 1; D. Yellowlees, 84 points, 2. Ladies' exchampions competition: E. Ayling, 98 points, 1; M. Morris, 97% points, 2. Men's intermediate, competition: H. Bolt 76% points, 1; J. Hurley, 74% points, 2.-Ladies' novice competition: G. Edwards, OVA points, 1; E. Ambridge, 91 points, 2. Older boys' championship: Jack Benham, 81% points, 1; Gordon Hall, 79% points, 2. Senior boys' competition: E. Witcomb, 84 points, 1; A. Norton-Taylor and J. D. Maybury, 83% points, equal, 2. Senior B boys' competition: E. Miller, 78 points, 1; T. Hawkins, 76 points, 2. Intermediate boys' competition: E. Spaekman, 77 points 1; P. Brooker, 76 points, 2. Intermediate novice boys: A. Gartner, 74 points, 1; T. Goldie, 72 points, 2. Junior boys: .! Large, 72 points, 1; S. Eeud, 71 points, •„ Junior novice boys: W. Eoberts, 73 points 1; B. Clarke and W.
