SPEEDWAY RACING
GOLDEN HELMET CONTEST.
Interest in "dirt track" racing is growing in New Zealand, and Christchurch and Auckland have now followed Wellington's lead in establishing speedways for this sport. At both places on Saturday night fine performances were registered by riders who are to appear at the Kilbirnie btadium Speedway nest Saturday night, Sticpewich (Australia) making a new record at Monica Park and Harvie and M'Ghee (Wellington) winning the interprovincial contest with Auckland at Western Springs. Special events have been arranged tor the Wellington meeting next baturday, and one will be the Golden Helmet contest, in which .the holder, Wally Kilmister, is likely to meet stronger opposition than previously. With improved lorm all round, the riders should be seen to excellent advantage in the various events, and the standard of broadsiding with its thrills and fine spectacle, is expected to reach the highest mark of the season. At the previous meeting the best time was only one second outside the record, so that there are good prospects of record-breaking performances nest Saturday.
