"A WORK OF ART"

BAFFLE THAT MET REFUSAL

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

NAPIER, This Day. The Napier Thirty Thousand Club sought permission to conduct an art union with a Maori head in gold as first prize. The Department refused permission and Mr. W. E. Barnard, M.P., supporting the request, later wrote and said he had seen a model of the head in soap and thought it certainly was a work of art, The Department wrote back "All right; raffle the model in soap."
