NOVEL CYCLE RACE

THE OLD HIGH MACHINES.

The Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre,, for its first electric light meeting of the season at the Basin Reserve on Saturday night, hopes to be able to provide an event every moment with every event one of moment," and from the programme that has been arranged and the number of athletes and cyclists who will be on hand —champions of last year and others who are very near the championship class—it appears that its object will be achieved. Among the most interesting contests will be no doubt the cycle races, in which such well-known riders as' M. Gane,- C. Flett, L. J. Pearce, W. Bray, Morris, and Ericsson, together with other notable performers, will be competing. Probably an event which will be particularly attractive will be the two miles scratch event, the nrst of the series in connection with the Wellington all-round championship. Gane is the holder of the title, and is at present in'brilliant form, so that with the other riders he should be capable of providing exciting sport. There will be a boys tricycle race, and an old-time race between Ericsson and Morris, mounted on "penny-farthing" machines. In addition to the cyclists Wellington's leading athletes, including a strong representation from the ladies' clubs, will be seen in action. «
