TEACHERS AT LUNCHEON
The annual luncheon of New Zealand headmasters and assistant-masters ..was hold AVcdncsday, when there was a large attendance of delegates from all over, the Dominion. , The chairman - for the. day was Mr. A. J. C.1 Hall (Auckland) and the vice-chairman Mr. H. E. Fisher (AVellington). The Minister" of Education (the Hon. .1.1. A. AVright) was present, as also wcro the Director of Education (Mr; T. B. Strong), the president of the N.Z.E.I. (Mr. F. L. Combs), Professor Gould (Vie : toria College), and other' officers and inspectors of the Education Department and of the AVellington Education Board., A pleasant time was spent with song and story. Mr. G. T. Palmer (Otago) was greeted with applause for a highly amusing version of "Jack and Jill," graded for the various standards, and as it would have been written by Longfellow, Teiinyson, Kipling, Leigh Hunt/ and Omar Khayyam. Mr. Binet Brown and Mr: A. Murdoch gave items, as did the Minister, the Director, the Assistant-Director (Mr. Bell), Mr. Combs, Mr. Penlington, and Mr. Hempleman. The proceedings were entirely informal, aud passed off most enjoyably from start to finish. The chairman congratulated Mr. Fisher upon ■ the successful way in which- he had organised the function, and the latter in reply asked those present to endeavour to have written a teachers' song and chorus, which should be sung at all future gatherings. The signing- of the autograph, book and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" , concluded the proceedings.
