AUSTRALIAN MEAT BOARD

A scheme providing for the establishment of an Australian Meat Board and a meat board in each State to organise the Australian meat industry was adopted by a conference of meat producers. The functions of the Australian Board will be to promote tho ' interests of meat producers in the production, sale, and marketing of their, products; to confer with exporters on matte i relating to tho industry, and to confer with Commonwealth and Stato Governments and public bodies in respect of matters concerning the industry. The functions of the Stato boards will be the consideration of matters connected with the industry insofar as they relate to States and to deal with matters referred to them j by .the Australian Board. It was agreed at the outset that the organisa- j tion should deal with beef, mutton, and lamb; that only representatives of the States on the Australian Board should exercise their votes in accordance with the extent to which the States were interested in tho three classes of meat referred to.
