KING'S THEATRE.
"Soul Mates," an adaptation of Elinor Glyn's novel, "The Reason Why," is screening again to-day at the King's Theatre. Most of the scenes are laid in England and , the atmosphere of the production is essentially that of the Homeland. The story tells of a beautiful English girl, Velma, who is forced into a marriage with a man whom she really loves. _ lo»tured by the belief that he_ is marrying her for her money, Velma is distinctly hostile to him both before and after the marriage ceremony. Eileen Pringle's portrayal of the English girl is splendid. There is an excellent supporting programme, which includes a gazette, comedy, screen snapshots, and a New Zealand scenic. An appropriate musical programme is contributed by the King's Orchestra. The merit of a motion picture rests upon three main considerations—the story, the direction, and the cast. In "Sally, Irene, and Mary," the latest Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer production, which commences on Friday at the King's Theatre, the excellence of all three has resulted in an exceptional film. Its story was suggested by the famous stage play by Edward Dowling, which enjoyed a remarkably success^ ful run. The cast includes Sally O'Neil, a delightful comedienne, who is rapidly becoming one of the most famous players of the screen; Joan Crawford, Constance Bennett, and William Haines. Tense drama and touching pathos are relieved by rare comedy scenes and a delightful romance. A special matinee takes place next Monday (Labour Day).
