GIRL GUIDE NEWS.

~4 Guide birthday parties seem to be the order of the day, and that held last Friday in the Brooklyn Parish Hall was in every way a huge success. The party was given by the Parents' Committee to the Guides, and the company is fortunate in having such enthusiastic helpers. The evening commenced with games, and at 8 p.m. Mrs. Herbert Kirkcaldie (divisional commissioner for Wellington) arrived and inspected the company. After this more games followed/ and then the event of the evening, a most delectable tea, was enjoyed, the birthday cake cut, and speeches made. ' As the Guides were guests of honour, they were waited on by the committee, and every Guide had at her place a basket of sweets, made in her patrol colours, all the work of a member of the committee. Mrs. Kirkcaldie was in white and silver, to match her divisional cords. A presentation was made during tea to Miss Wilson, who had captained the original Brooklyn Company, and who had had to retire owing to ill-health, the gift being a Guide "Thanks" Badge. Mrs. Middloton, as captain of the company, cut tho cake, and other, officers present were Miss MacCallum (lieutenant), Mrs. Eobottom (divisional secretary), Miss Toulson (Dominion editor). Following are the names of the committee, to whom great praise is due for their excellent work on behalf of the Brooklyn Guides:—Misses Hadley and Pulley, Mesdames Fowler, Fairhall, Linklater, Miller, Thompson, Staples, Clark, Darby, Archibald, Rev. Canon Compton, Messrs. Wright and Fendall.
