BANK DIBECTORB' REMUNERATION.
The provision in the Bank of New Zealand Bill increasing from £5000 to £6500 the remuneration of the directorate of the bank was commented on in the Legislative Council last night. The Hon. Hark Cohen said that.seeing' the big dividends the bank paid he would like to have Been a larger proportion of the dividends given towards the provident fund of the officials, who were the people who-"really, made for the success of the bank. Mr.' | Cohen also put in a word for-greater remuneration for the directors of- private savings banks, who gave so much of their time in the service of those institutions. ■: ■ " The Hon. V. H. Reed said there was no doubt that the Bank of New Zealand had made very large.dividends in the past, and it was doubtful whether it had treated its officers as it should have done, considering its profits. The Hon. G.. J. Garland said that underl the Bill the directors would have about five times as much work to do as before, and they would have another. £5,000,000 of responsibility. Surely they had a right to further remuneration.
