CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL REACHED.
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The semi-finals in the New Zealand amateur billiard championship attracted a large attendance yesterday. In the afternoon Ja. Jf'redatovich met E. V. Roberts. Both played confidently. From the start Fredatovich soon gained a good lead, but Roberts gradually played himself into form, and in the latter stages gave a fine display, running out a winner by 06 noints with an unfinished break of 67. Other good scores from his cue were 32, 33, 35, 21, 51, 43, 24, 37, 73, and 35, averaging 9.6. The loser was not quite so accurate as usi3»l, but made a,, good effort to win with runs of 33, 21, 22, 32, 55, 45, 39, 57, 26, 28,. and 25, averaging 8. In the evening H. F. Valentine met Stewart (Dunedin). Valentine commenced well and soon established a. good lead, but Stewart •rose to the occasion and reduced the lead until only 24 points separated the pair. Valentine went away again, and at the 57th cue the scores were: Valentine 529, Stewart 353. A beautifully compiled break of 81 was Stewart's final effort, bringing his total to 488, when Valentine ran to game, a winner by 178 points. Valentine made breaks of 23, 39, 34, 27, 23, 21, 26, 40, 30, 43, 39, 38, 29, and 33 unfinished, averaging 10. Stewart, who is a young player, battled determinedly, making runs of 2G, 58, 21, 53, 24, 29, and 21. The result leaves H. F. Valentine and E. V. Roberts in the final, which will be played in three sessions of 500 up, commencing this evening and continuing tomorrow and Friday evenings.
