Browne, a former national champion and captain of the American team that visited England and France this season, hai announced her intention to sign a contract to play professional tennis for Mr. C. C. Pyle, who is also managing Mile. Suzanne Lenglen's tour of the United States. Miss Browne volunteered ao details about the contract, but it is understood that she was offered 2500 dollars when she signed up and a percentage of the gate receipts, and ako other flat sums depending on the success of Mr. Pyle's venture. Mr. Pyle confirmed Miss Browne's statement.

Hiss Mary K. Browne, on* ot the most popular lady player* the United States has turned out, first won a national championship in 1912 at Philadelphia, when she va« successful in the ladies' singles, the mixed doubles with B. N. Williams, and the ladies' doubles with Miss D. Green. She retained the singles title in 1913 and 1914, the war then intervening. She re-entered the championship* in 19M. and reached the final, losing to Mrs. Molla Mallory after thTee sets. The following year Miss Browne reached the semi-final, where she was eliminated By Miss Helen Wills, the ultimate winner. This year she again reached the semi-finals, only to be beaten by Miss Elizabeth Eyan, who was herself beaten in the final by Mrs. Mallory. Miss Browne has several championships to her credit, including the New York State singles in 1921 and the Mexican ladies' singles in 1924. She captained the United States_ team in the Wightman Cup competition at Forest Hills last year, and the same season won the U.S.A. doubles championship with Miss Wills and tho Mexican doubles with Miss Eyan. Miss Browne is also in the first flight of golf players, and won tho ladies' championship of South California in 1924, and wa* runner-op in the U.S.A. championship the same year. .Miss Browne livet at Los Angeles.
