UNREGISTERED DENTISTS.
"I wonder how long this farce is going on," said the Hon. V. H. Beed in the Legislative Council yesterday afternoon, when the Dentists Amendment Bill was under consideration. The practice of allowing unregistered men to become registered by legislation was very unfair and very discouraging to young dental students. "I hope Tery sincerely that this will be the last time that we will have a Bill of this kind before us," said Mr. Beed. The Hon. J. Barr, while agreeing with the remarks of Mr. Eeed, pointed oat that there were still many men ia the same position as those affected in the Bill. "I daresay we wyi have another Bill in a couple of years," eoncluded Mr. Barr. The hope that the door would be closed when the Bill was passed was expressed by the Hon. J. A. Hanan. He did not think the Bill should go through. The Hon. li. M. Isitt said he was surprised that another attempt was being made to open, the door for the unregistered men. He would oppose the Bill. The Hon. G-. J. Garland supported the Bill, which, he said, would give a square deal to a large body of Tery fine men. The Loader of the Council (Sir Heaton Bhodes) said that all such proposals as contained in the Sill had caused trouble, no matter what the profession.. He sincerely hoped that the present would be the last Bill of its kind. On a division, the second reading was carried by 19 votes to 8. The Bill was then put through its remaining stages and passed.
