ROAD CYCLING
SATURDAY'S 40-MILE RACE,
The sixth race under the auspices of the Port Nicholson Amateur Road Cycling Club was held in the Hutt Vallye on Saturday afternoon^under splendid conditions. Twenty-tour cyclists took part in tho race, over a forty-mile course from Petone to the foot of Mungaroa Hill and back, and some good performances were registered, though a uumber of the competitors wero handicapped by punctures. Among the competitors was, a visitor from Christchurch, A. R. Mutton. Butler, the English crack, did not take part. The first to reach the turning point were Chammeii and R. J. Robinson, ■ and closely following them were Gane, Beattie, Prendergast, and Scarfc. On the outward journey, the scratch men, Bright, Flett, Robinson, and Cars-well, gained six minutes on the limit men. Attempts were made by the back-mark-ers to break away on the return journey, but these competitors were equally matched and finally finished in a bunch, C. Flett ; ' gaining fastest time — lhr 49min 515...; The platings were: L. A. Kenny (6min), lhr Slmin 7soc, I; M. Gave (7mm), lhr S.'lmin Usee, _; H. Scarfe (4miu), lhr 53miiv 35sec, 3. Gane finished with a punctured tire. A boys' race'- over a course of i 3£ miles resulted: Sutherland 1, Woods 2, M'Carthy 3. { The officials were:—Judges, Messrs. G. Harrison andj H. S.
